Perfil Profesional
The student who graduates from the program of English Education for Elementary and High School Education of Universidad Mayor will be a professional capable of relevantly and competently performing in the teaching of English as a second language in Elementary as well as High School Education.
The graduate will be able to efficiently and effectively manage the communicational skills, allowing establishing affable interpersonal relations and managing within the professional field.
He/she will be able to practice the profession within a frame of ethical principles, showing commitment with the tasks undertaken, respecting diversity in order to promote co-existence and social responsibility, have a command of the English language at a minimum level of ALTE 3 or an equivalent.
In his/her professional performance he/she will be able to guide the student in the exploration and discovery of his/her own learning seeing to the individual needs of the students. Also, he/she will be able to manage competent teaching methodologies and assessment systems, relevant and coherent, capable of carrying out participatory classes, incentivizing individual exploration and collaborative learning, being able to respond to the needs of the XXI century, making an efficient use of the available resources and information on the Web.
Through his/her professional work the graduate will show leadership, entrepreneurship, and an objective and realistic vision of the educational system supported by the connection with the educational reality from his/her first year of training. He/she will be able to organize and manage educational or entrepreneurial projects which promote the teaching of English.
Finally, he/she will be able to analyze his/her work, taking on the need of continuous improvement with the objective of developing his/her educational practice in response to the needs of the students and the environment.
Perfil Genérico UM
The graduate from Universidad Mayor will show through his/her professional work the capacity of entrepreneurship which will allow him/her to creatively establish objectives for him/her or for others, make decisions in ambiguous situations and formulating the means leading to the accomplishment of objectives established; with criticism and self- criticism allowing a continual search of genuine solutions to problems, managing his/her own emotions enduring indecision and ambiguity; with basic research skills to design projects; with self- learning capacity which is evidenced through the search for relevant information, analysis and application of autonomous learning strategies and capacity to integrate inter and multi- professional teams.
Certificación de Competencias
Competency Certification System at the end of each block of CurrículumMayor
Universidad Mayor, through its curricular model assures student learning, by the evaluation and competency certification of the profiles stated in each block of CurriculumMayor. Depending on the program, by the end of the 2nd or 3rd year, students undergo the first competency evaluation. The performance is evaluated in a real or simulated evaluative situation in which the performance is evidenced based on the key competencies developed at the Bachelor level. The student advances to the Licentiate level and, again, undergoes the competency evaluation, including specific disciplinary or generic competencies; among the latter, the management of communicational skills, of basic research skills, scientific reasoning and quantitative tools, reasoning, critical analysis and self- criticism, skills to access and use the technological tools, especially the information ones, entrepreneurial capacity and project administration, self- learning and personal development, appreciation of the historical- social and cultural reality of Chile and the world, valuing the role he/she plays in his/her development. The student concludes his/her educational stage at the Professional level, it is here, where the competencies engaged in the graduating profile should represent the response to acting competently as CurriculumMayor assures it in its educational offer. The Evaluation and Certification of Competency System has the objective of evaluating the effectiveness of the professional and generic competencies of the students, according to the UM educational model. This process adds value to the education, since apart from the academic certification the student obtains the performance certification of the evaluated competencies.
